CLASSES

BALLET

For our MIni & Pre-Ballet classes children learn the joy of movement with emphasis on rhythm, coordination and flexibility. Basic ballet positions and terminology are introduce. Interacting with other children in a positive environment adds to the students sence of awareness. Our regular Ballet & Pointe classes are graded classes in ballet to meet the needs of students at each stage of their development. Technique is build upon learning solid placement and work habit. Students are evaluated by instructors before starting their study on pointe.

 

HIP HOP

Instruction and study of the ever evolving street inspired dance. Working with different types of dance styles as inspiration to combine them and enrich this hip hop class.

 

TAP

SDDA is one of the few San Diego academy's that follow the Al Gilbert graded tap technique. All students graduate from each grade.Grades run from primary all the way to twelve.

 

JAZZ

With its origin from ballet, jazz is one of the most energeric technique and dance style there is. Students love the challenge of a fast paced technique driven class, in this class you will be challenged with turns jumps and choreography.

 

LATIN DANCE

Dancers must follow a stict framework of rhythmic patterns. Dancers express their personal emotions through various Latin dance stile, including salsa, bachata, flamenco etc. Dancers are challenge to dance with "castanuelas" (castanets) and other props while moving their skirt and cordinating their footwork with armwork.

LYRICAL dance is a fusion of ballet and jazz dance techniques.

Lyrical dance challenges choreographers and dancers to use motion to interpret music and express emotion. A lyrical dancer's movements attempt to show the meaning of the music. Lyrical jazz is a very passionate and emotional dance style. It portrays certain emotions such as love, and tells a story through every movement made.

CONTEMPORARY dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dancers focus on floorwork, using gravity to pull them down to the floor. This dance genre is often done in bare feet. Contemporary dance can be performed to many different styles of music.

 

REGISTRATION FEE

There is a $45 registration fee that is calculated anually.

 

UNIFORMS

SDDA has mandatory uniforms for each of its dance styles, these range from $45 to $65.
